Municipality and Urban Planning Minister Opens 'Project Qatar 2012' Exhibition

HE the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning, Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani, opened on Monday at the Doha Exhibition Centre, the International Trade Fair IX for the materials, equipment and techniques of construction and environment conservation "Project Qatar 2012", in the presence of a crowd of diplomats, businessmen and those interested in building and construction sector in Qatar and the region.
HE the Minister cut the opening ribbon and toured the various pavilions which feature around 2100 exhibitors from 48 countries.

Balance sheet of retail banks tops $69.3bn

The aggregated balance sheet for retail banks increased by 0.5 per cent to reach BD26.12 billion ($69.3bn) last month.
Year-on-year, the aggregated balance sheet is 5.1pc higher.
Total outstanding loans for retail banks increased by 0.5pc at the end of March compared with end-February to stand at BD6.58bn.
Year-on-year, total domestic credit is 15.9pc higher than it was a year ago.
Lending rates for business and personal sectors decreased to 4.64pc and 6.27pc respectively against the end of February.

Syria: Central Bank attacked with grenades

Syria's state news agency says assailants have fired rocket-propelled grenades at the Central Bank and a police patrol in the capital Damascus and detonated two bombs in the northwestern city of Idlib.
The SANA agency says four policemen were hurt and the bank building was slightly damaged in Monday's attacks. An activist says 10 people were hurt in the explosions in Idlib.
State media blamed the attacks on "armed terrorists," a term it uses to describe those trying to overthrow President Bashar Assad. A largely peaceful uprising began more than 13 months ago but turned into an insurgency...

An exhibition for Syrian products on Saturday kicked off in the Iranian capital of Tehran with the participation of 300 companies in the field of textile and engineering, chemical, medical, cosmetic and nutritional industries on an area of seven thousand square meters.

The Foreign Ministry on Saturday accused Turkey of provocation with its talk of asking NATO to help protect its border with Syria, saying such action went against the UN-backed peace plan.
